Addition of Roe Conn to the Network Lineup Expands Offerings in Talk Format
New York, NY – November 3, 2009 -- United Stations Radio Networks, Inc., (USRN) an independent leader in the creation and marketing of network radio programming, announced that, effective immediately, the network will be distributing THE ROE REPORT, a highly-produced news and commentary feature created and hosted by the award-winning Talk Radio Host Roe Conn and delivered to stations daily, Monday through Friday. The announcement came from USRN’s Chairman/CEO, Nick Verbitsky at the company's Headquarters in New York City.
The Roe Report is a short-form broadcast intended to be a glimpse at what’s happening in the world today via the unique perspective of Roe Conn. The piece is best described as a mix of news, commentary, pop culture and entertainment stories, and it’s brief and fast-paced format is accentuated by clips of music, raw sound and recognizable audio from popular movies, television shows and other audio sources. The Roe Report, while not similar to the programming produced and hosted by the late Paul Harvey, has been compared to some of Paul Harvey’s broadcasts because of its broad scope, wide appeal and sometimes humorous approach to its content. The Roe Report has been airing at WABC, New York, KABC, Los Angeles and WLS-AM, Chicago and those affiliations are expected to continue.
In making the announcement, USRN’s Nick Verbitsky commented “Roe Conn has proven himself to be not only a great local broadcaster, but a guy with great instincts for what the whole country is thinking and talking about. Frankly, we see Roe Conn as one of the bright spots in the future of Talk Radio and we’re thrilled to be able to grow our menu of services in that format with Roe in the spotlight.” Roe Conn added, “The team at United Stations and I share a common vision about what both affiliates and their audiences want, and I’m looking forward to growing our national broadcasting footprint together.”
Roe Conn is a native of Chicago and the host of his own afternoon drive talk show on WLS-AM in that city. He has become one of that city's top rated radio personalities, and he’s also been recognized by Talkers Magazine as one of the "100 Most Influential Talk Show Hosts in America" as well as earning a prestigious Industry Achievement Award for Best Local Talk Host in America. Roe is also a regular contributor to ABC Radio News political and event coverage and has been a frequent guest on broadcast and cable news programs and served as a commentator and fill-in host for CNN and HLN. Active in numerous charitable causes, Roe produces and hosts an annual concert to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation with singer/songwriter Richard Marx. He is an active fundraiser for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, Illinois Crime Commission, and the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots program. Roe is also a member of the board of directors for the USO of Illinois. Before joining WLS, Roe produced EMMY-winning commentaries for WBBM-TV and started his career at NBC's WMAQ Radio in Chicago. Roe is a 1986 graduate of Denison University where he studied Anthropology.
